Jumeirah, the oldest residential district on Dubai’s coast, derives its name from the Arabic word meaning “beautiful.” In the pre-modernization era of the 1960s, Jumeirah was highly favored by Western expatriates, making it a sought-after location for residential living. As a result, many houses in Jumeirah, which consist solely of low-rise structures, are spacious and well-spaced. In a city characterized by glass and steel, these traditional houses command high prices, contributing to Jumeirah’s reputation as the “Beverly Hills of the Middle East.”

The majority of properties in Jumeirah are villas, ranging from large residences with private pools to those located within small compounds offering shared recreational facilities. It is important to note that foreign individuals are not permitted to purchase property in Jumeirah, leading to high rental costs. Presently, Jumeirah boasts a diverse mix of nationalities, including a significant Emirati population.

Apart from the Mercato shopping mall, Jumeirah offers a wide range of independent stores, boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. Additionally, the district is equipped with two post offices, multiple bank branches, two hospitals, and various medical and dental clinics.

Jumeirah is well served in terms of education, with numerous nursery schools and a variety of British and American system schools, encompassing both established institutions and newer educational facilities.

Due to the proximity of many amenities within walking distance, Jumeirah exudes a genuine sense of community and neighborhood ambiance.
