Whether you’ve been living in Abu Dhabi for a while or are new to the emirate, familiarizing yourself with the city takes time. However, exploring and getting to know Abu Dhabi can be an enjoyable experience. While you won’t become an expert overnight, you’ll soon become familiar with different areas such as Al Maryah Island, Al Zahiya, Al Bateen, the Corniche, Downtown, Khalifa City, Masdar City, Musaffah, Mushrif, Reem Island, Saadiyat Island, and Yas Island.

Al Maryah Island is a bustling area with top-notch hotels, restaurants, and the luxury shopping destination, The Galleria Al Maryah Island.

Formerly known as the Tourist Club Area, Al Zahiya is an old part of the city that offers a range of restaurants, shops, and bars. It’s also home to Abu Dhabi Mall and popular hotels like Beach Rotana and Le Méridien Abu Dhabi.

Al Bateen, a popular destination, was historically a fishing port and now houses top hotels like the InterContinental Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi EDITION. It also offers beautiful beaches and great dining options.

The Corniche is a famous waterfront stretch of the city with iconic landmarks, including Emirates Palace, Qasr Al Watan, and the Heritage Village. It offers a free public beach, the Al Bahar waterfront attraction, and shopping options like Nation Towers and Marina Mall.

Downtown Abu Dhabi is the heart of the city, offering a vibrant atmosphere with thousands of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Khalifa City is primarily a residential area but offers attractions such as the Al Forsan International Sports Resort, the Marriott Hotel Al Forsan, and Abu Dhabi Cricket. It is also home to the Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa and the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Masdar City is a unique sustainable city with underground driverless cars, impressive architecture, and dining options like Barbacoa, Jim’s Kitchen Table, and Skinny Genie. It features a public park with various attractions and a new green mall, My City Center.

Musaffah is an industrial area known for its numerous garages that service vehicles. It also offers Dalma Mall, one of the largest malls in the city, with shops, entertainment zones, and restaurants.

Mushrif is a central neighborhood popular among residents, featuring Mushrif Mall, a prominent shopping destination, and Umm Al Emarat Park, one of the city’s largest public parks.
Saadiyat Island is the city’s cultural district and home to museums like the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Manarat Al Saadiyat. It offers high-end hotels, a beautiful public beach, the Saadiyat Beach Club, and the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club. Future projects include the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum.

Yas Island is a major tourist destination, featuring attractions like Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld, Yas Marina Circuit, and Yas Mall. It offers a range of hotels, live entertainment venues, Yas Beach, Yas Marina, and popular nightlife spots.
